MobilityX, the self-driving conference, took place this week in Iveagh House, Dublin.
Bringing together global leaders in the autonomous driving industry and welcoming technology enthusiasts, the one-day conference discussed the continuous advancements in this field, as well as the opportunities for Irish business and impacts on road safety and insurance.
Speakers included industry leaders such as James Taylor of BMW ReachNow, Bobby Hambrick, CEO of AutonomouStuff, Barry Lunn, CEO of Arralis, and Peter Barry, Chief Software Architect of Jaguar Land Rover.
Guests got a first hand testimonial of the innovation at work in the autonomous-driving field. Key points of discussion were advancements in artificial intelligence in transportation and the evolution of communication between vehicle to vehicle and vehicle to cloud technology to create a network of interconnected vehicles.
The movement to electricity as a power source for transport and the development of car sharing companies and demands on infrastructure and the marketplace was also discussed at the conference.
Philip McNamara, VP of Voxpro and organiser of MobilityX, said, “I’m delighted that today’s conference included so many exciting speakers from home and abroad. We find ourselves at a crucial point in the development of self-driving technology and Ireland offers great possibilities for the progress of the industry. With new advancements all the time, events such as the MobilityX Conference offer a great opportunity for discussion and networking for those looking to gain insight into how future transportation is about to drastically change.”
The conference in Dublin will be followed by an invite-only, TED style event on Mayo’s Achill Island over the weekend (Friday, May 11th through to Sunday May 13th) sponsored by Mayo County Council. Mayo and the west of Ireland have been identified as an impressive location for the testing of self-driving technology. This exclusive Mayo event will further the discussion on the future of autonomous driving.
