Volkswagen has just launched an updated Golf in Ireland, based on the current Mark 7 generation of the famous hatchback. Let’s call it Volkswagen Golf Mark 7.5, a chance for the brand to modernise some key elements while this generation lives out the rest of its life.

The updated Volkswagen Golf has some small revisions to the styling, equipment, infotainment, and engine line-up.

There are new bumpers, new radiator grille, new glass headlight covers that extend further up the wing and more chrome detailing at the front and back. All models have LED daytime running lights and LED rear lights.

The infotainment systems have been redesigned, and all feature larger touchscreens. At the top end of the range, the new Discover Navigation Pro radio-navigation and online system features gesture control and has a 9.2 inch screen. Volkswagen’s Active Info Display digital instrument cluster has also been introduced to the range and is now standard on Highline, GTE, GTD, GTI and R. There is also a larger range of online services and apps available.

The engine line-up for the revised Volkswagen Golf consists of a new 1.0-litre TSI petrol with 85hp or 110bhp, the 1.4-litre TSI petrol with 150bhp, the 1.6-litre diesel with 90 or 115bhp and a 2.0-litre diesel with 150bhp.

The updated Golf is now on sale with a starting price of €20,895 for the 3-door range, and from €21,895 for the 5-door range. According to Volkswagen Ireland, the majority of customers now opt for the top spec Highline trim because of the brand’s staggered APR which is 5.9% on Trendline, 3.9% on Comfortline and 1.9% on Highline, GTI, GTD and R models.

Volkswagen is also offering a series of Innovation Packs, which bundle some of the most popular and attractive options into cost-saving packages, saving customers €1,100 over the individual items within the current 171 offer. On the Trendline models, the €399 Innovation Pack offers 15” Lyons Alloy Wheels, Front Fog Lights and Cruise Control.

On the Comfortline, the €399 Innovation Pack offers Park Distance Control, High Beam “Light Assist”, a Light & Vision Package and Folding Mirrors.

In Highline, GTI, GTD and R models, the €599 Innovation Pack bundles Discover Media, High Beam “Light Assist”, Rear-View Camera and the Winter Pack with heated seats.
