I’m a big fan of video games. I’ve spent countless hours behind the wheel of a virtual car. I’ve driven some of the world’s most exciting and challenging race circuits – from my living room.

Here’s one I would love to get behind the wheel of.This is the MINI Clubman as you’ve never seen it before. The “MINI Clubman Vision Gran Turismo” is available only in Gran Turismo 6, and not in the real world (boo!). You can access it from an online update for the game.

Gran Turismo producer Kazunori Yamauchi has been inviting leading car manufacturers to contribute to the successful Gran Turismo series to celebrate the GT 15th anniversary, and share their futuristic concept models with the gaming community.

The MINI Clubman Vision Grand Turismo is a modern day Mario kart with colourful livery and a surprisingly sleek, sexy shape. MINI say that they have optimised the appearance of the car so it looks good from the gamer’s point of view, paying special attention to the rear and top view.

The MINI Clubman is cool in an oddball sort of way but I don’t think it has ever looked THIS cool – like I might want to drive it.

The engine produces 395 bhp and will accelerate from 0-100km/h in just 3.5 seconds. It’s got permanent all-wheel drive to best put that power onto the virtual racetrack and a sequential 6-speed transmission operated using wheel-mounted paddles.

Fully adjustable dampers at the front and rear ensure an optimum connection with the road. The maximum speed is up to 290km/h, depending on the gearbox ratio and specific to each race track. I’m dizzy already.

The car has been fully optimised for the virtual world of high octane racing with huge air inlets to cool the high performance engine and brakes. The wide track with broadly flared wheel arches promises agile handling when taking bends at speed.

The front apron and flat underbody are made entirely of carbon, which not only reduces air resistance, but also reduces the weight of the car so you can clock super-fast lap times.

Cleverly they have also incorporated customisation, a trademark of the MINI brand. With a total of five colours, players can adapt the MINI Clubman Vision Gran Turismo visually to their own personal preferences during the game. The base colour is Cyber Silver with a hint of mint green – this is British racing green for the cyber generation.

Contrasting with the body colour there are stripes running across the bonnet and roof. And they’ve even got special names. In the standard version, the roof is finished in Reflector Blue with accentuation stripes in Radiant Orange and Curry.

In the other variants, the roof is available in Mirage Black or Space Green. Depending on the roof colour, the bonnet stripes and roof stripes then contrast in Radiant Yellow, Radiant Green or Radiant Orange. How would you like yours?

“The MINI Clubman Vision Gran Turismo combines all the hallmark MINI design features presented in the sportiest and most exciting style. A MINI like this has never been seen before,” says Christopher Weil, Head of MINI Exterior Design.

Now how about make one for the real world too?
