The MG Cyberster in Dublin
The MG Cyberster in Dublin

Caroline was in Dublin for a special preview of the new MG Cyberster hosted by MG Motor Ireland.

What is it?

The MG Cyberster is MG’s new two-door, electric roadster. It’s expected in Ireland this summer. It will likely be available with the choice of single motor, rear wheel drive or dual motor, all wheel drive. It will be powered by a 77kWh battery with a range in the region of 500 km and 0-100kmh in less than five seconds. It was created in MG’s design studio in Marylebone, London lead by Carl Gotham and draws inspiration from MG’s heritage. It has classic sports car design cues like a long bonnet and low nose. Design highlights include scissor doors and a Kammback rear design. It’s fitted with dramatic 20-inch alloy wheels.

Why is it in the news?

These days MG is more famous for affordable hatchbacks and SUVs like the MG4 and the MG ZS. The new Cyberster marks a serious departure for the MG brand, now under Chinese ownership, and a return to its sports car roots – but electrified for a new generation of sports car fans. MG is of course an historic British brand, famous for two seat roadsters like the MGB. It celebrates 100 years in car production in 2024. In the 1990s, the MGF was a successful return to sports cars for the brand at a time when two-seat convertibles were still very popular. These days, not so much. But the Cyberster will help reconnect MG with its sports car heritage and act as a halo car to make the brand cool again.

How much will it cost?

Pricing is yet to be confirmed but we can expect the Cyberster to go on sale in the region of €70,000.
