The Peugeot 3008 has been awarded European Car of the Year 2017 by a 58 member jury made up of motoring journalists from 22 countries across Europe.

The Peugeot 3008 received 319 points, pushing the Alfa Romeo Giulia into second with 296 points and the Mercedes-Benz E-Class into third with 196 points.

This is the first time an SUV has won the award since the awards were established in 1964. The judging panel acclaimed the Peugeot 3008 for its style, interior design and performance.

The Car of the Year award is given to the most outstanding new car to go on sale in the 12 months before. Cars are judged based on design, comfort, safety, economy, handling, performance, functionality, environmental requirements, driver satisfaction, and price. Technical innovation and value for money are particularly important factors.

This is the fifth time that Peugeot has won this title, following the 308 in 2014, the 307 in 2002, the 405 in 1988 and the 504 in 1969.

On the announcement, Jean-Philippe Imparato, CEO of the Peugeot brand said:“I am particularly proud and very pleased that the new Peugeot 3008 has just won the 2017 Car of the Year prize. This trophy is the culmination of five years of incredible work by the brand’s teams and our group.”
