The Renault ZOE 2020 model now in Ireland!

The Renault ZOE 2020 model has arrived in Ireland, also known as ‘Renault ZOE Z.E. 50’.

Renault Ireland is touting the new ZOE as Ireland’s most affordable electric car. And they are right. The Renault ZOE range kicks off in Ireland at €26,990, including €10,000 in SEAI grants and VRT relief. It’s a whisker cheaper than similarly sized rivals like the new Peugeot e-208 (from €27,334) and the Opel Corsa-e (from €27,338).

What do you get for your money?

New ZOE has a new 52 kWh battery with a longer range than ever before. It’s now faster also. In Ireland the Renault ZOE is available with two different motors, the R110 motor (108 hp) and the new R135 motor with greater performance (135 hp).

ZOE is a five door, small car from Renault that’s exclusively electric. The boot has a capacity of 338 litres. There are three trim levels: Play, Iconic and GT Line. New colours include Celadon Blue, Flame Red and Quartz White. Exterior styling has been revised and there is a completely redesigned interior in the 2020 model. Better quality materials feature and a customisable 10-inch TFT instrument cluster is fitted as standard. Renault tells us that the seat trim on Iconic models is 100 per cent made from recycled materials. Full LED headlamps come as standard as do Apple CarPlay™ and Android Auto™. Wireless smartphone charging is available.

There’s also a new regenerative braking ‘B Mode’ that allows single pedal driving.

A whole suite of safety systems is available on new ZOE, including the Active Emergency Braking System (AEBS), Lane Departure Warning (LDW), Lane Keeping Assist (LKA), Traffic Sign Recognition (TSR), Blind Spot Monitoring (BSM) and Auto High/Low beam headlamps (AHL).

Renault ZOE Range

The Renault ZOE Z.E. 50 has a new 52 kWh battery that replaces the 41 kWh battery in the previous generation of the car. The ZOE is now considered ‘long range’ with a range of 395 km measured to WLTP industry standards.

The 2020 Renault ZOE has the Chameleon Charger™  as standard permitting fast, convenient 22 kWh AC charging through whatever charging point is available. Plugging the ZOE into the public 22 kW roadside charger, which are so common around Ireland, can deliver a useful 125 km of range in only one hour. There is a new CCS fast charge point on some of the models (please check our list above for availability). This means new ZOE can also avail of fast 50 kW Direct Current (DC) charging for the first time, adding around 145 km of range in as little as half an hour.

Private buyers can avail of a €600 SEAI grant to assist with the purchase and installation of a home charging unit.  A 7 kW unit allows the new ZOE to be charged from 0 to 100 per cent in 9 hours and 25 minutes. According to Renault, charging the ZOE at home on a night rate tariff would typically cost about €5.

Real time charging information can be accessed using the MyRenault app.

It’s seven years since the ZOE was first launched in Ireland and Europe. At Changing Lanes, we have been lucky to test drive previous versions of ZOE. We look forward to bringing you a full road test of the Renault ZOE 2020 very soon! In the meantime, check out this Renault ZOE review from 2019.

Elsewhere in the Renault line-up, the brand is exploring electrification with new hybrids being added very soon to the Clio, Captur and Megane ranges in Ireland.
