The 10 Bestselling Cars In Ireland In 2017

While the new car market in Ireland shrunk by 10% in 2017 compared to 2016, you are still buying new cars in your droves with 131,356 new cars registered in 2017.

Which cars captured Irish hearts in 2017? Take a look at my countdown here:

10. Volkswagen Tiguan

2,480 registrations

A fine sample of a compact SUV. I had the pleasure to review the Volkswagen Tiguan 2.0TDI again in 2017.

9. Toyota Corolla

2,790 registrations

The Toyota Corolla is a no-nonsense saloon car and a perennial Irish favourite. I reviewed a diesel Toyota Corolla in 2017 and it wasn't hard to see why Irish buyers love this value for money family car.

8. Toyota Yaris

2,881 registrations

In 2017 Toyota launched a revised Yaris range and I managed to get my hands on a Toyota Yaris Hybrid for review. The Yaris is a straightforward supermini with a lot of fans.

7. Kia Sportage

3,066 registrations

The Kia Sportage is one of the most visible SUVs on our roads and has become a firm Irish favourite. I'm a big fan of the Kia Sportage and I had the opportunity to test one in 2016.

6. Ford Fiesta

3,217 registrations

The Ford Fiesta is over 40 years old but it's got a charm that's always endeared it to the Irish public. A new model arrived in July 2017 so it's a good time to check out one of Ireland's favourite small cars.

5. Ford Focus

3,850 registrations

Another perennial Irish favourite, the Ford Focus might be looking a little old now but it's still the best handling hatchback around.

4. Skoda Octavia

3,980 registrations

A small refresh for the Skoda Octavia in 2017 but still a great value car.

3. Nissan Qashqai

4,196 registrations

Once upon a time the Nissan Qashqai was Ireland's bestselling car. It's lost it's crown somewhat but remains a very popular Irish family car. In 2017 I reviewed a refreshed Nissan Qashqai.

2. Volkswagen Golf

4,321 registrations

The Volkswagen Golf is a consistent topseller in Ireland and received a refresh in 2017.

1. Hyundai Tucson

4,908 registrations

The Hyundai Tucson reigns supreme for another year. There is no stopping the Tuscon as it charges ahead with a considerable margin.

Caroline Kidd Changing Lanes

Caroline's 2017 Highlights

2017 has been the best year yet for Changing Lanes and I'm happy to share with you my best moments, best cars and best blogs from this year.

1. International launch of the Honda Civic in Barcelona

I was very happy to travel with Honda Ireland in Feburary to Barcelona to drive this exciting new model. Civic is such an icon of the Honda brand so it was a great privilege to be one of the first people to drive the tenth generation.

2. Me and My Car Features

This year I have been delighted to introduce the Me and My Car feature to find out more about your cars. Already we've had Daryl and his Renault Twingo, Stamatis and his Peugeot 208 GTi and Nuno and his Volkswagen Golf.

3. Pop, bang and crackle in the Ford Focus RS

I drove lots of exciting cars in 2017 but my favourite without a doubt was the nitrous blue Ford Focus RS I managed to bag in March!

4. Irish Car of the Year 2018

I was very privileged once again to vote in the Irish Car of the Year awards.

5. International launch of the Ford Fiesta in Valladolid

This was a very enjoyable launch - good car, good company and good roads.

6. Living it up in the BMW 5 Series

2017 was my first year to review BMWs and I fell a little bit in love with the 5 Series. I love the luxury inside the cabin, the beautiful ride and the gadgets.

7. Catching some spring sunshine in the Fiat 124 Spider

One of my happiest memories was driving with the roof down on the Fiat 124 Spider. Not the perfect roadster but still made me smile.

8. My weekend with the Audi TT

The Audi TT wasn't one of 2017's new cars but I managed to get my hands on one from Audi Centre for review. I even made a video. Very fond of this car.

9. Being named a top blogger

I was delighted to be listed by The National as one of their three female motoring bloggers you need to know about.

Thank you for all your support and I hope you will enjoy what I have planned for 2018!
