
There are plenty of exciting cars and SUVs to look forward to in 2022. Expect to see even more hybrid, plug-in hybrid and electric vehicles arriving here as brands continue to move towards electrification of key model ranges. There will be a range of new hatchbacks, saloons, estate cars, compact crossovers, family SUVs and 7-seaters to look forward to.
What cars are new in Ireland in 2022? We’ve listed all the new models from the brands reaching Ireland in 2022 and those already here for the new 221 registration! We will try to keep this article updated throughout the year as more new models are added.
ALFA ROMEO
The new Alfa Romeo Tonale compact SUV will arrive in Ireland in 2022 with a number of different powertrains available.
AUDI
In 2021, the big news in the Audi range was the arrival of two exciting new electric models, the Audi e-tron GT and the Audi Q4/ Q4 Sportback. Audi will bolster their range of new plug-in hybrid vehicles in 2022 with the launch of the new Q3/Q3 Sportback TFSI e, the first plug-in hybrid models from Audi in the compact SUV class, with a range on electric power of up to about 50 km. The flagship Audi A8 saloon will also receive an update in 2022. For high performance Audi fans, there’s the arrival of the latest Audi RS 3, equipped with a 400 hp, five-cylinder engine.
BMW
2021 was all about new electric models at BMW including the new iX3, i4 and iX. The second generation 4 Series Gran Coupe is available to order now with first Irish customer deliveries from now. There’s a new 2 Series Active Tourer expected with both electrified and conventional powertrains and it will debut the BMW Operating System 8 in a compact-class BMW. It’s available to order now. Early 2022 will see the arrival of the new BMW 2 Series Coupé, the only vehicle in its segment to offer a six-cylinder in-line engine. The line-up includes the 374hp, all-wheel-drive BMW M240i xDrive Coupé.

CITROEN
The new Citroen C4 range was a welcome debut from the French brand in 2021. The new flagship Citroen C5 X will launch in the second quarter of 2022, with petrol and plug-in hybrid powertrains, and a fully electric version to follow at a later stage. The C5 Aircross will be updated just in time for summer. Citroen also plans to launch the new Citroen Ami compact urban electric vehicle next summer with a range of 75 km and a top speed of 45 km/h.
CUPRA
The big news for CUPRA in 2022 will be the arrival of the brand’s first electric vehicle, the new CUPRA Born. It will arrive here towards the end of the first quarter with three battery options – 45kWh, 58kWh and 77kWh – delivering ranges of 350km, 424km and 540km respectively. The Born will join a newly launched CUPRA range that includes the new Formentor and CUPRA Leon plug-in hybrids.
DACIA
2021 was all about the new Sandero and Sandero Stepway, as well as a facelifted version of the popular Duster. Dacia will bolster their line-up in 2022 with the arrival in the second quarter of the new Dacia Jogger, a seven seater powered by a petrol engine.
DS
DS relaunched in Ireland in 2021 with a new distributor. The DS 3 and DS 7 SUVs are already on sale here and will be joined in 2022 by the new DS 4 hatchback in the first quarter, with plug-in hybrid and fuel derivatives. The new DS 9 saloon will arrive for July, with fuel and plug-in hybrid derivatives available.

FIAT
The new electric Fiat 500e and Fiat 500 mild hybrid will arrive in January. The new Fiat Tipo Cross is also expected in 2022.
FORD
The new all-electric Ford Mustang Mach-e will begin to arrive in dealerships from now. The updated Ford Fiesta will arrive in March 2022 with the updated Ford Focus expected in June. Both will have enhanced hybrid options.
HONDA
The new Honda Jazz Crosstar will arrive in Ireland in 2022 and will be available as a hybrid. It’s pitched as a mini SUV and will be sold alongside the new Jazz that arrived earlier in the year.
HYUNDAI
Hyundai has a recently updated range in showrooms including the all-new Tuscon now with hybrid technology, Santa Fe, Bayon, updated Kona, and the new all-electric IONIQ 5.
JAGUAR
Jaguar launched a suite of new plug-in hybrids in 2021. In 2022 there’s a new all-electric I-PACE Black Edition that comes with enhanced specification including gloss black detailing, privacy glass, a full panoramic roof and 20” alloy wheels.

JEEP
Early in 2022 we can expect to see the new Jeep Compass mild hybrid and plug-in hybrid models.
KIA
The all-electric Kia EV6 has just arrived in Ireland. The new Kia Sportage goes on sale in January, with diesel available from launch, to be followed by hybrid. The plug-in hybrid will arrive in March/April. Towards the end of the year there will be a new Kia e-Niro and Niro plug-in hybrid. Also arriving in October/November will be the EV6 GT with 577hp and all wheel drive.
LAND ROVER
A new Range Rover will arrive in Ireland in the second quarter of 2022. New 510 hp and 440 hp plug-in hybrids will have an electric range of up to 100 km.
LEXUS
A plug-in hybrid will be added to the NX mid-size SUV range, called the NX 450h. The ES saloon will also get an update for 2022 with new wheel trims, headlamps, grille and updated interior trims with a 12.3-inch touchscreen.
MAZDA
2021 was about the new Mazda MX-30 electric crossover for the Japanese brand. In early 2022 a number of models will receive an update including the Mazda2, Mazda3, CX-30, CX-5 and MX-5. A new large SUV, the CX-60, will launch in Ireland later in 2022, as well as a plug-in hybrid version of the MX-30. For 2022, the Homura special edition grade has been expanded across the line up and will be available in Mazda CX-5, Mazda3, Mazda CX-30 and the Mazda2. Sporty design enhancements include black alloys and wing mirrors, and additional equipment and styling, which will differ depending on the model.

MERCEDES-BENZ
A new Mercedes-Benz C-Class has just arrived in dealers. The Mercedes-Benz 2022 product offensive in Ireland will see the German manufacturer extend its presence in the market for electric vehicles with the arrival here of a number of new models from the Mercedes EQ family. The S-Class inspired all electric EQS luxury saloon will arrive first in the spring. Also due in the first quarter will be the EQB, which slots into the Mercedes-EQ range above the entry-level EQA and below the larger mid-range EQC. The second quarter will see the arrival of the E-Class inspired, electric EQE, designed as a sporty business saloon. It will be followed later in the year by high performance Mercedes-AMG EQE 43 and Mercedes-AMG EQE 53 versions. new Mercedes-AMG SL will arrive early in the second quarter. Following later in the year will be a high performance AMG GT 4-door Coupé.
MG
MG enters 2022 with a new line-up including the MG5 electric estate car, MG HS plug-in hybrid and a freshly updated MG ZS electric SUV with more battery range and a new look. Another compact electric vehicle from the brand is expected in Ireland in late 2022.
MINI
Following its introduction on the MINI Clubman and MINI Countryman in early 2021, the Shadow Edition is now available to order on the MINI Hatch, MINI Convertible and MINI Electric. Offered exclusively in Ireland and the UK, the Shadow Edition comes with a higher standard specification, focuses on blacked out features and edition-exclusive bonnet design and graphics.
NISSAN
2022 will see Nissan expanding its line-up of electric cars with the debut of the new Nissan Ariya. Nissan’s new electric coupe crossover will have a range of up to 500 km (WLTP). There will two batteries available: 63 kWh and 87 kWh, and the choice of two wheel drive and all wheel drive. The Ariya will be available to pre-order from early in 2022, with first models arriving in late spring. Following on from the launch of the new Nissan Qashqai mild hybrid in 2021, a new Nissan Qashqai E-Power hybrid will join the range in July.

OPEL
2021 was all about the new Opel Mokka and all-electric Mokka e. 2022 will see the arrival of the all-new Opel Astra hatchback and Astra Sports Tourer in the second quarter, now with plug-in hybrid technology for the first time, as well as petrol and diesel derivatives. It will be followed by an all-electric version in 2023. There’s also a facelifted Opel Grandland expected in Ireland in March 2022. It will be available in petrol, diesel and plug-in hybrid, with two and four-wheel drive variants. The new five seater Opel Combo-e Life will arrive in early 2022 and can drive up to 280 km (WLTP) on a single charge with a 50 kWh lithium-ion battery.
PEUGEOT
New arrivals in 2021 included facelifted 3008 and 5008 SUVs, along with a new high performance 508 PSE fastback and estate. The big news in 2022 will be the arrival of the new generation Peugeot 308 hatchback and estate, now with plug-in hybrid technology for the first time. It will arrive in Ireland in the first quarter, with fuel derivatives also available.
RENAULT
In 2021, Renault launched an all-new Arkana SUV coupé with hybrid engines. 2022 will see the arrival of the new Renault Megane E-TECH, the first electric Megane, with a striking new design and a choice of 40 kWh or 60 kWh battery giving a range of up to 450 km (WLTP). It’s expected to arrive in the autumn.
SEAT
New in dealerships for 2022 are updated versions of the popular SEAT Arona and SEAT Ibiza with updated styling, equipment and connectivity, and a new Xperience trim for the Arona. The new SEAT Tarraco e-Hybrid will arrive towards the end of the first quarter, joining the Leon e-Hybrid in the brand’s line up of plug-in hybrids.

SKODA
2021 saw the arrival of the new Skoda Enyaq electric SUV and in May an Enyaq Coupé will join the range. Other new arrivals for the brand will be the new Fabia from February and an updated Karoq from April.
SUBARU
Subaru will launch the brand’s first electric vehicle in 2022, the Subaru Solterra, a compact electric SUV.
SUZUKI
A new Suzuki S-Cross with hybrid technology will debut in 2022.
TESLA
The new Tesla Model Y mid-size electric SUV is expected in Ireland in 2022.
TOYOTA
The new Toyota Yaris Cross and RAV4 plug-in hybrid are fresh in dealer showrooms. The brand’s first electric model will arrive in Ireland in May 2022, the Toyota bZ4X, with up to 450 km range. The new Toyota Aygo X compact crossover will arrive in April with a 1.0-litre petrol engine. The new Toyota Corolla Cross will arrive later in 2022.

VOLKSWAGEN
2021 saw the launch of the new ID.4 and a host of new plug-in hybrid models including the Tiguan, Arteon and Touareg plug-in hybrid. 2022 will see the launch of the ID.5 electric SUV coupé and the new T-ROC, expected mid-year. An updated Polo will also go on sale, as will a new Taigo, a compact crossover coupé. The all-electric ID.Buzz is also coming in 2022.
VOLVO
The new Volvo C40 Recharge arrives in 2022. The new electric SUV coupé is powered by a 78 kWh battery with a battery range up to 444 km (WLTP). The Recharge plug-in hybrid powertrain in the 90 and 60 Series models has also been improved for 2022 with the all-electric range up now to a projected 90 kilometres on a single charge.
