If you're in the market for a new small car, there are lots of options to choose from. In this article, I've picked what are in my opinion as a car reviewer the best small cars on sale in Ireland today. My choices are based on criteria including practicality, efficiency and value for money, including budget small cars and premium offerings.
There are more hybrid and electric options than ever in the small car market, but there are still plenty of small petrol cars on sale too. Whether you're a young driver starting out or looking for a second car for the family, there's so many great small cars and hatchbacks available right now.

Hyundai Inster
The Hyundai Inster is the best small electric car you can buy at the moment thanks to its superb quality, equipment, range and charging, all offered at a great price that makes it impossible to ignore. It comes as a clever four-seater, but with incredible practicality thanks to rear seats that can slide forward to create more boot space. Inside the Inster was inspired by the Ioniq 5 so has a big-car feel that belies its diminutive dimensions. There are two different battery sizes, which take it easily from town to motorway should you have to.
Toyota Yaris
The Toyota Yaris is a household name in Ireland and for good reason. It's not the most exciting supermini on sale but it does deliver on build quality and efficiency thanks to its fuel-sipping hybrid powertrain. Toyota has improved the Yaris over the years and the current one is the best yet. It looks the part of a stylish small hatchback, with even a GR Sport version available. Toyota has also improved the drivability and refinement of the hybrid to make it quieter and smoother. The Yaris isn't cheap but it's good.
Dacia Sandero
The Dacia Sandero has been a real hit in the Irish market. At a time when small cars are at their most expensive, the Sandero still manages to offer Irish buyers value for money. It's a simple car in its most basic spec but Dacia has vastly improved the design and equipment over the years. The Sandero Stepway version even looks like a trendy small SUV. Power comes from a simple 1.0-litre turbo petrol engine. The Sandero has been facelifted for 2026 so there's never been a better time to take a look.
Citroen C3
An all-new Citroen C3 has recently arrived in Ireland offering customers style and value in the small car segment. Citroen has given the new C3 chunky SUV-inspired looks that really help it to stand out from the crowd. Power comes from a petrol engine with manual and automatic options available, while there is also the first ever all-electric E-C3 designed for town and city use. Inside it feels quite basic but still with plenty of French charm and comfortable seating for passengers.
BYD Dolphin Surf
BYD has added a brilliant small electric car to its line-up in Ireland. The supercar-inspired styling (hello baby Lambo) gives it plenty of character and attitude, while inside this four seater is very well appointed with plenty of smart features. There are a few different trim and battery options for the Dolphin Surf. It's good fun to drive and definitely worth a look if you're looking for a small electric car.
Honda Jazz
The latest Honda Jazz is one of the most practical and spacious small cars on the road. It features clever Magic Seats that can fold flat or flip up the rear seat bases for even more space. It uses a fuel efficient hybrid powertrain and is a very versatile small car, going effortlessly from town to motorway driving. It won't win any beauty contests but it is a quality offering in the small car segment with MPV-like practicality.
Seat Ibiza
The current Seat Ibiza has been around for a long time but the 2026 update lifts it enough to keep it in the game. Based on the Volkswagen Polo, it offers arguably more style and charm thanks to a sharper design that has aged very well. It's spacious inside for a small car and offers plenty of choice with a variety of trim levels and petrol engines to choose from.
Renault 5
The new Renault 5 made a big splash when it arrived in Ireland, securing the title of Irish Car of the Year 2026 to cement its status as the hottest electric small car on sale right now. It looks fabulous with a modern design inspired by the classic Renault 5. Inside, it's just as chic with a variety of trims available and a brilliant Google-based infotainment system. It's not particularly spacious inside but do you care when a car looks this good?
Suzuki Swift
The Suzuki Swift has been around for years and is known for its rock-solid reliability. The Swift offers real value for money, coming in at a great price that undercuts many rivals. It's a simple petrol mild hybrid with choice of manual or automatic gearbox, and one of the most fun small cars to drive. It's not the last word in luxury inside, but it does come very equipped for a small car.
Alfa Romeo Junior
If you're looking for something a bit fancier, the new Alfa Romeo Junior is worth a look. It marks a return to small cars for the Italian car brand. It's dripping in classic Alfa style and feels equally sophisticated inside. There is the choice of a full electric Junior or a petrol mild hybrid. It's fun to drive and offers good levels of refinement too. The boot is a good size though it's tight in the back. Still, it's hard not to be seduced by the Junior's style and sporty drive.

Volkswagen Group Ireland prepares for a strong 2026
Volkswagen Group Ireland has announced record-breaking sales for 2025, together securing a 29% share of the overall new car market.
It was a historic year with 40,950 vehicle registrations across its six brands: Volkswagen Passenger Cars, Audi, Cupra, Seat, Skoda and Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles.
The Group also showed leadership in electric vehicles, with its brands accounting for more than one in four new electric vehicles sold.
The Volkswagen ID.4 finished 2025 as Ireland's bestselling electric vehicle, topping the sales charts for a fifth consecutive year with registrations up 35% in the past 12 months alone.
2025 a strong year for Volkswagen Group brands
Skoda achieved record sales for the third year in a row, and was the third bestselling car brand in Ireland in 2025. Its success was helped in part by a 300% surge in electric vehicle registrations thanks to the arrival of the facelifted Enyaq and the all-new Elroq.
Cupra continued to grow with registrations up 55% in 2025 thanks to the arrival of new models like the Tavascan and Terramar, and facelifted versions of the bestselling Formentor and the Leon.
Registrations of Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles rose 39%, helping it achieve second place overall in light commercial vehicle sales.
Audi launched a slew of new models in 2025 and says it has increased its BEV and PHEV share to 40% of the 2026 order bank.
New Volkswagen Group cars, vans and SUVs on the way in 2026
Volkswagen Group will launch 20 new models in the year ahead across its passenger car and van brands.
Skoda will launch two new electric SUVs, the compact Skoda Epiq and the Skoda Peaq seven-seater, as well as a heavily updated Superb plug-in hybrid. There are also special 130th anniversary editions available of the Fabia and Enyaq.
The new Cupra Raval small electric hatchback will arrive in September, marking a new entry into the brand's range of cars and SUVs. Sister brand Seat is also having a revival of its own, with updated 2026 versions of the Ibiza and Arona on sale now.
Volkswagen will also have a strong year ahead with the arrival of the Golf GTI Edition 50, all-new T-Roc, ID.Polo and ID.Cross.
On the van side, the brand will launch the all-electric Volkswagen e-Caravelle.
Leapmotor B10 on sale in Ireland priced from €32,984
Leapmotor has officially launched its new B10 compact electric SUV in Ireland, targeting one of the country’s most competitive passenger car segments.
It follows the introduction of the Chinese car brand to Ireland late last year. Leapmotor's move into Europe is backed by the Stellantis Group who represents many of Europe's most-loved car brands like Peugeot, Citroen and Opel.
The Leapmotor B10 arrives in Irish dealerships this month with pricing for Ireland starting from €32,984 including SEAI grant and VRT relief. It goes up against rivals such as the MGS5, Skoda Elroq and the Hyundai Kona, but offers a lot of style, space and equipment.
Two battery options and strong standard specification
Irish buyers will be offered two versions of the Leapmotor B10. The entry-level Style trim uses a 56.2kWh battery, delivering a claimed 361km WLTP driving range.
The higher-spec Design version is expected to be in demand among Irish buyers and features a larger 67.1kWh battery with a range of up to 434km WLTP. Prices for the Design trim start from €35,996, inclusive of incentives.
Both versions come with a heat pump, 11kW AC charging and 140/168kW DC fast charging, allowing a 30–80% charge in around 20 minutes.
Despite its competitive pricing, the B10 comes well equipped as standard. The Style model includes a panoramic glass roof, 18-inch alloy wheels, a 360-degree parking camera and lots of advanced driver assistance systems.
The Design trim adds features such as heated and ventilated front seats, ambient lighting, heated steering wheel and a powered bootlid.
Inside the Leapmotor B10
The new B10 has a very minimalist interior with few buttons, but perceived quality is good. There's a large Snapdragon-powered infotainment system, with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto expected to arrive as an over-the-air update in January 2026.
Remote vehicle functions are also available through the Leapmotor smartphone app, for example pre-heating of the car and the battery before charging.
Safety is another strong point, with the B10 achieving a five-star Euro NCAP rating, following the larger C10 SUV which received the same score last year.
Leapmotor's growing line-up of cars and SUVs
The new B10 joins the T03 and C10 in Leapmotor's Irish line-up. However by the end of the year, the brand says it will have six models in dealer showrooms.
The brand has already confirmed new models for Europe in 2026, including the B03X compact SUV, B05 hatchback and a range-extender hybrid version of the B10, all unveiled earlier this month at the Brussels Motor Show. There's also a new B-segment hatchback expected, though this hasn't been named yet.
Leapmotor now has seven dealerships in Ireland, including locations in Dublin, Cork, Kildare, Meath and Galway.
All cars come with a six-year manufacturer's warranty and eight-year battery warranty.

Curious about the bestselling vans in Ireland? In this article, we take a look at the top five bestselling vans in Ireland and the most popular van brands currently based on the 2025 data we have from the Society of the Irish Motor Industry (SIMI).
According to the data, registrations of new light commercial vehicles (LCV) were up 7% in 2025 on the year before, which corresponds to about 32,779 new vans.

The van brand rankings show overall market strength, but which models are the most popular in Ireland?
1. Renault Trafic
The Renault Trafic finished 2025 as Ireland's bestselling van, proving to be a hit among commercial vehicle buyers and businesses. The Trafic offers van buyers plenty of options including two lengths, two different roof heights, and panel van or crew van versions. Renault's medium-sized van offers numerous practical features like a loading length of 4.15 metres using the load-through
bulkhead under the passenger seat, and a loading volume of up to 8.9 cubic metres depending on version. It also has modern technology features like a touchscreen and smartphone mirroring. Diesel and electric variants are available.
2. Ford Transit Custom
The first of two Ford vans making the top five. The popular Ford Transit Custom is a medium-sized van available in two lengths that's a bit more compact than the standard Transit van. There are numerous options and configurations available, and up to 6.8 cubic metres of space. The Transit Custom offers plenty of choice when it comes to power: traditional diesel with a manual or automatic gearbox and a new all wheel drive option, but also plug-in hybrid and full battery electric variants.
3. Ford Transit
The Transit is one of Ireland's most iconic vans with history stretching back over 60 years. It definitely falls into the large van category with up to 15.1 cubic metres of space available and a maximum load length of about 4.3 metres. Choose from three different lengths and two different roof heights, with the option for a second row of seating for passengers should your business require it. Diesel has long been the default engine choice for the Transit, with manual gearbox or a new 8-speed automatic. But these days you will also find an all-electric Transit on sale with up to 317 kilometres range.
4. Renault Master
The Renault Master has all your big van needs covered. Larger than the Trafic, the Master is available in a few different lengths and heights, with up to 14.8 cubic metres of space possible in the long wheelbase, high roof versions. It's available with a well-proven diesel engine and manual or automatic gearboxes, but there is also a full electric option with up to 460 kilometre range.
5. Volkswagen Caddy
The Caddy has long been a favourite among Irish van buyers and rounds up the top five bestselling vans in Ireland. It's a great option if you're looking for a handy small van that drives well. It has lots of practical features like sliding doors, load space up to 3.1 cubic metres, payload of 700kg and an additional 100kg roof load. Power comes from a 2.0-litre diesel engine with manual or automatic gearbox.

CITROEN
Citroen has offers across its 261 range of cars and SUVs, including extras like 10% off car insurance with Aviva, up to €500 deposit contributions and a free home charger for electric models. The newly launched Citroen C5 Aircross family SUV can be got from €355 a month with a 3.9% APR PCP finance deal or the smaller C3 Aircross from €252 a month.
DACIA
Dacia has 261 offers across the range including the popular Sandero hatchback from just €139 a month with a free service plan. If you need something bigger, you could drive a new Dacia Duster from €189 a month, a Jogger seven-seater from €199 or the new Dacia Bigster family SUV from just €215 a month.
FIAT
Fiat is offering 3.9% APR PCP or 4.9% APR HP finance deals across the range including the all-new Fiat Grande Panda. Drive a new Fiat 600 Hybrid for example from €233 per month and there's also a free home charger with electric Fiats like the 500e and 600e.
FORD
Ford is offering 0% APR with 3-year 'Ford Options' plans for 261 on models such as the ever-popular Puma, Capri and Explorer. The Puma electric and petrol versions are available from just €219 a month and there is up to €3,000 worth of savings to be made on selected models.
HYUNDAI
Hyundai's 261 offers include PCP finance rates as low as 2.49% on the popular Ioniq 5, Ioniq 6, Kona EV and Santa Fe, and 3.99% on the bestselling Tucson, and award-winning Inster and Ioniq 9. In lieu of low finance rates, other incentives include free home chargers and 'Peace of Mind' vouchers up to the value of €777, depending on model.
JEEP
The Jeep Avenger is the brand's most compact model, available as petrol, hybrid or electric so there's plenty of choice. It can be got from €241 per month with current finance deals and a complimentary EV charger on electric models.
KIA
Kia has had a stellar year in 2025, registering over 10,000 new cars. The Sportage, EV3 and EV6 are among the brand's bestsellers, and along with the newly launched EV4 electric hatchback, are available with 0% PCP and Hire Purchase finance deals. All electric Kias also come with a free home charger installation.
LEAPMOTOR
Leapmotor is one of the newest car brands to enter the Irish market and is offering 3.9% APR finance deals (HP and PCP) across its growing range including the T03, B10 and C10. Paint is free until the end of March too, so you can pick your favourite colour with no regrets!
MAZDA
Mazda's finance rates start at 2.9% APR on selected models like the Mazda2 Hybrid and other incentives include trade-in boosters up to the value of €2000.
MG
MG has continued to grow its presence in Ireland with new versions of the HS and ZS hybrid SUVs, and its bestselling MG4 electric hatchback. There are finance boosters across the range to the value of €1500-€2500 depending on model. Even better, save up to €4000 on a new MG4 standard range and take advantage of a 0% finance deal.
NISSAN
Nissan's 'Get 4k Your Way' offer is back, which allows you to choose between a €4,000 finance contribution or €4,000 trade-in bonus on the Ariya, Juke, X-Trail and Qashqai. Until the 30th December 2025, you can combine this offer with 4.9% APR finance.
OPEL
Opel's offers for 261 include a €1500 trade up bonus and flexible payment options like a 2.9% APR PCP across the range that means you could drive a new Mokka for example from €229 per month or the newly launched Frontera from just €190 a month. If you're thinking of going electric, Opel offers 0% APR HP finance on its EV range of cars and SUVs, free home charger and a 15% discount off renewable electricity for your home when you register your new Opel and switch your domestic electricity supply to Energia.
PEUGEOT
Peugeot has 261 offers across its hybrid and electric range including the 208, 2008, 3008, 408 and 5008. PCP finance rates from 1.9% APR, as well as a free home charger, EV service plans and a €500 Dunnes Stores voucher until 31st December.
POLESTAR
Polestar's Business Editions make the carmaker's luxury cars ever more affordable. Grab yourself a Polestar 2 Business Edition from €39,900 or €368 a month with a 3.9% APR PCP finance deal or a Polestar 4 Business Edition from €56,490 or €492 a month, or a €2000 trade-in booster.
RENAULT
Renault has some great offers for 2026 on its electric and hybrid range of vehicles. The newly launched Renault 4, award-winning Renault 5 and Renault Scenic, and the stylish Megane electric hatchback are eligible for 0% APR HP finance/3.9% APR PCP deals or trade-in boosters up to the value of €2500.
SEAT
SEAT is reviving its line-up in 2026 with revised versions of the popular Ibiza and Arona. They are hitting the market in 2026 with a 0% PCP finance offer, as well as 3 years of free servicing, roadside assistance and tyre insurance.
SKODA
Skoda is kicking off 2026 with 0% APR finance offers across the range including the newly launched Elroq, as well as old favourites like the Octavia, Superb, Enyaq and Kodiaq.
SUZUKI
Suzuki still offers some of the best value cars on the Irish market. Its three-car range - Swift, Vitara and S-Cross - is currently available with 0% APR finance.
TESLA
The newly launched Tesla Model Y Standard with up to 505km range is available from just €319 a month at 0.99% APR PCP finance rates. Tesla is also offering 3 months of unlimited free supercharging on selected pre-configured versions of the popular Model 3.
TOYOTA
Toyota's 261 offers include trade-in boosters up to €2,500 and finance rates from 3.9% APR on key models like the C-HR Plug-in Hybrid, Prius Plug-in Hybrid and the all-electric Toyota BZ.
VOLKSWAGEN
Volkswagen's 261 offers include finance rates as low 0% APR on its EV range like the ID3, ID4, ID5 and ID7, as well as deposit contributions and free home charger incentives. The new ID. Promise “100-day drive and decide” offer runs until 31st May across Volkswagen EVs and allows eligible customers to return the car between 80 and 100 days following the handover and receive a refund under certain terms and conditions.
VOLVO
Volvo has several 261 offers at the moment across its vehicle range including a special bundle offer on the EX30 that includes a €1000 purchase contribution, 4-year service plan and finance rates as low as 0% APR.
XPENG
Xpeng was a new arrival to Ireland in 2025 and looks set to expand the line-up further in 2026. The facelifted Xpeng G6 will be hitting Irish roads this January and is available with 3.9% APR finance until the end of the month.

Are you thinking of buying a new car in 2026? From sleek coupés to electric SUVs and practical compact cars, 2026 is shaping up to be a bumper year for new cars in Ireland.
In no particular order, here are 11 new cars coming in 2026 that are definitely worth waiting for!
1. Mercedes-Benz CLA Coupé
Mercedes' compact four-door coupé is getting its biggest makeover yet with the arrival of a new generation of the popular CLA Coupé and Shooting Brake variant in 2026. Both are set to launch in the spring and will be available as a petrol mild hybrid or a full battery electric for the very first time. With excellent aerodynamics, the electric CLA will offer a range up to nearly 800km.
2. Nissan Leaf
It's been a long time coming but 2026 will see the launch in Ireland of the new generation Nissan Leaf, which has been completely reinvented in its biggest glow-up yet. It sits on a new platform and now takes the shape of a trendy coupe crossover that will slot into the Nissan range below the Ariya and offer up to 604km of range.
3. Mazda CX-5
Mazda will replace the ageing CX-5 in 2026 with an all-new version of the popular SUV. It features the brand's strong evolution of Kodo design, with many premium touches to the cabin that will take it into a new era. It will initially be available with a mild hybrid petrol engine, but a full hybrid is likely to be on the way later. 2026 will also see the arrival of the Japanese car brand's Mazda 6e electric saloon to rival the Tesla Model 3.
4. BMW IX3
BMW will welcome an all-new iX3 to Ireland in March. It's the first of the brand's Neue Klasse models, built on an all-new platform with pared back design that uses light to highlight the brand's iconic kidney grille, improved efficiency, 800 volt charging and range up to 800km.
5. Fiat Grande Panda
The Panda is one of Fiat's most iconic models and will make a return in 2026 as a practical, budget-friendly small SUV. It will offer great choice to buyers with everything from a simple petrol or hybrid engine, to a fully electric Panda with up to 320km of range. Its fun design is sure to bring some colour to Irish roads in 2026.
6. Jeep Compass
Jeep has been quietly renewing its line-up with the brilliant Jeep Avenger putting the brand in the right direction again. Now it's the return of the all-new Jeep Compass, the brand's larger five-seat family SUV that's been brought up to date with a stylish new design and more efficient powertrains, including a full electric Compass for the very first time.
7. BYD Atto 2
BYD has been building its presence in Ireland with a slew of new models and the momentum is set to continue in 2026 with the arrival of the Atto 2. It's a compact SUV that slots into the range below the Atto 3, with chunky styling and some exciting powertrains. The first to launch will be a plug-in hybrid that uses the brand's 'Super Hybrid' technology for efficient driving.
8. Volkswagen ID.Polo
Volkswagen looks set to revitalise its small car line-up with the arrival of an all-new ID.Polo, which takes the classic design cues of the brand's famous small hatchback and adds electric underpinnings for the very first time. It's hoped it will come to market at a competitive price and offer buyers a practical and affordable small electric hatchback.
9. Peugeot E-208 GTi
Peugeot will relaunch its iconic GTi badge next summer for the first time on an electric car. It's a big moment for the French car brand, but the E-208 GTi has been designed by the Peugeot Sport team and is likely to be very good with its powerful electric motor, limited slip differential and numerous technical upgrades.
10. Renault Twingo
Not strictly confirmed yet for the Irish market, but if the new electric Twingo arrives it could seriously upset the small car electric market with its combination of iconic cute looks, heritage and fun interior.
11. Toyota C-HR+
Toyota is set to have a big year in 2026 with new arrivals like the much-loved new generation RAV4, Aygo X Hybrid, updated BZ and this - the new Toyota C-HR+. It will sit alongside the highly popular C-HR Hybrid, but offers buyers a fully electric option with range tipping 600km. It looks smart and futuristic, and features a brand new interior design.

Renault 4 on sale now
The new Renault 4 has arrived in Ireland, Renault's new retro-inspired, electric small SUV.
It's the charismatic follow-up to the Renault 5, which was recently awarded Irish Car of the Year 2026.
Built on the same platform as the 5, it offers a little more space inside and a bigger boot, all wrapped up in a familiar design inspired by the original Renault 4 that was a big hit in the 60s, 70s and 80s.
There are two battery options available for the new 4. Entry-level evolution models come with a 40kWh battery producing 120hp and around 308km of range, while a larger 52kWh battery powers a 150hp electric motor and delivers up to 410km of driving range. DC fast charging allows a 15–80 per cent top-up in around 30 minutes.
Pricing starts from €27,995 rising to €34,995, with three trims available: evolution, techno and iconic.
Next summer, techno and iconic versions will also be offered with a fun “plein sud” electric canvas roof.
Renault’s OpenR Link infotainment system comes as standard, featuring a 10.1-inch touchscreen with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Higher trims add built-in Google services, including Google Maps with EV route planning, alongside a 10-inch digital driver display.
The French car brand looks set to strengthen its small car range even further with a new generation Clio on the way. The Renault Twingo electric city car could also make a return to the Irish market in 2026.
Kia EV5 arrives in Ireland
The Kia EV5 has officially gone on sale in Ireland, with pricing starting from €47,265.
Kia's new family electric SUV sits alongside the bestselling Kia Sportage, offering generous space for five people and a 566 litre boot.
There's one 81.4kWh battery on offer with up to 530km of range possible (WLTP). Fast charging speeds are capable of replenishing the battery in as little as 30 minutes. A heat pump is also standard across the range, enhancing efficiency in cold weather.
The EV5 will be offered in Earth 2, Earth 3 and GT-Line trims, with prices starting from €47,625, rising to €54,000 for the GT-Line.
Equipment highlights include wraparound ambient lighting, wireless smartphone charging, heated steering wheel, heated front and rear seats, and a powered tailgate.
The new EV5 is aimed at the largest and most competitive market segment in Ireland and will go up against the likes of the Skoda Enyaq, Volkswagen ID.4, Tesla Model Y and Toyota BZ. With compact SUVs already accounting for almost 30% of new car sales, the EV5 arrives as a crucial new model for a brand already enjoying strong momentum, particularly among electric cars.
Kia currently sits fifth overall in the Irish market, with 10,004 registrations so far this year and 7.9% market share, helped by the enduring popularity of the Sportage and bestselling EVs like the EV3 and EV6.

Renault 5 Wins Irish Car of the Year 2026!
At a gala awards ceremony in the Conrad Hotel in Dublin, the Renault 5 won Irish Car of the Year 2026, in association with Continental Tyres.
Members of the Motoring Media Association of Ireland (MMAI), the grouping that brings together 29 of Ireland’s most experienced motoring journalists, hosted the awards event attended by Ireland’s leading car brands, importers and distributors.
The awards are voted on by the members of the MMAI, including this writer, who individually assess each new car model launched in Ireland each year.
It is now the sixth year in a row that an electric vehicle has been voted Irish Car of the Year, underlining the rapid transformation of the Irish car market and the growing appeal of zero‑emissions motoring.

The field of eligible cars for this year’s awards was broken down into nine categories, with the category winners going on to compete for the overall title.
The Irish Car of the Year awards, the oldest and most reputable automotive award title in Ireland, remain the benchmark for excellence in the industry, guiding Irish motorists towards the best new models each year.

SUVs continue to be popular with new car buyers in Ireland, especially compact models that blend affordability with rugged good looks and a higher driving position.
The B-SUV segment, as its known, is now dominated by petrol, hybrid, and electric models, as manufacturers adapt to stricter emissions targets and evolving consumer demand.

FORD PUMA
The Puma is one of Ford's most popular models and has really captured the hearts of Irish buyers since it first arrived in 2020. It looks great and is really fun to drive too. While first launched as a small petrol mild hybrid crossover, there's also an electric one available now. The Puma Gen-E is sold alongside the petrol and offers a range up to 376km making it an ideal urban runaround. There's also clever storage and lots of boot space for such a small car. The new Puma electric coincides with a facelift across the range, which sharpens up the Puma's cute looks and refreshes it inside with new technology and equipment.
RENAULT 4
New for Ireland, the Renault 4 has bags of charm and character. Inspired by the iconic 60's original, the new Renault 4 comes with the choice of two different battery options. It's designed as a small urban crossover and that's really where it excels. It's equally charming inside with a brilliant Google-based infotainment system. It feels very upmarket and offers a comfortable drive for this class of vehicle. Legroom is not particularly generous in the back but it has a spacious boot for everyday practicality.
TOYOTA YARIS CROSS
The Yaris Cross has been a bestseller for Toyota since it arrived in 2022 and its popularity shows no signs of abating. For so many buyers it's the go-to option for a small, efficient crossover. Based on the Yaris supermini, it has chunkier looks and sits higher off the ground for a bit more attitude. It comes with a fuel-sipping hybrid powertrain that also boosts its popularity. The Yaris Cross has a rock solid cabin with lots of digital features. There are a range of trim levels available including GR Sport versions.
JEEP AVENGER
Jeep is famous for building tough off-road vehicles but its smallest SUV is definitely its best yet. New to Ireland since 2023, it's available as petrol, hybrid or electric. It's quite small on the inside but perfectly sized for town and rural roads. It looks great and is fun to drive. With such an extensive choice of engines, there really is something for everyone. Even better, they're all priced the exact same.
HYUNDAI KONA
The latest Kona has grown in size and stature, and is even more stylish than the model it replaced. Inside it has an all-new interior design and very good level of specification. It's roomy in the back and offers plenty of boot space, which makes it a great all-rounder. There's plenty of choice in the Kona range and buyers can choose from petrol, hybrid or an electric Kona with range up to 514 kilometres.
DACIA DUSTER
The Dacia Duster was originally launched as a budget SUV but over the years this model has really found its stride and carved out a niche of loyal followers who love the boxy good looks and stance of a traditional SUV at a great price. The new one elevates the Duster to even greater heights, with a better interior finish and new hybrid powertrain as well as petrol and 4x4.
NISSAN JUKE
The one you could say kicked off the trend for small SUVs. The Nissan Juke continues to sell well in Ireland. With smart looks and an equally funky interior, the Juke is one of the most fashionable of the small SUVs. The Juke petrol is fun to drive, while the new hybrid offers a cleaner and more efficient drive - though it will cost a bit more to buy. There's a choice of different trim levels including N-Design, N-Sport and SVE.
OPEL MOKKA
The Opel Mokka facelift arrived in 2025 with a few tweaks to styling, new colours and a smart new digital interior. Its sharp design has stood the test of time and it's one of the German brand's most popular models on sale in Ireland. There's plenty of choice too, from lively petrols to fuel-efficient hybrid and a full electric Mokka with range up to 403 kilometres.
PEUGEOT 2008
Peugeot has been moving its brand upmarket and the latest generation of the 2008 brings so much sophistication and style to the B-SUV segment. The i-Cockpit interior creates a unique cabin experience in the small Peugeot and the 2008 feels truly premium behind the wheel. It's one of the most refined and comfortable of the small SUVs. Allure models offer plenty of kit. The 2008 is agile on the road with a great selection of engines to choose from, including petrol hybrid and full electric.
SKODA KAMIQ
The Kamiq is currently the smallest Skoda SUV on sale and is one of the most fun of the entire Skoda range with chunky crossover looks and lots of attitude. It's agile and fun to drive, and being a Skoda, it's simply clever, with loads of neat features and spacious too for this segment. It's sold with a simple petrol engine that's lively and efficient.
LEXUS LBX
If you're looking for something a little more upmarket, the Lexus LBX is a brilliant choice. It's a brand new model from the Japanese car brand and packages Lexus quality in the trendy shape of a small crossover. It's powered by a very efficient 1.5-litre hybrid powertrain. Space in the back seat is not great but there is a good sized boot and it's impeccably refined to drive.
